Barb;
Actually the discussion on imports does belong here. I
have stopped
breeding and SELLING some species because the gene pool
has so shrunk
that the specimens I saw at shows were p--poor examples.
Without the
ability to import fresh genetic material all of us face
problems with
fertility and poor feathering and disfigured hatchlings.
Anyone familiar with the situation in Australia knows
that GALAHs are
exterminated in the thousands as agricultural pests but,
can not be
exported so that here we pay $1000+ for what amounts to
Aussie starlings.
How much better would our stock of Galahs look and act
if some of those
executed birds were in breeding aviaries? And, how much
less expensive.
I can not forget the expression on the face of a
Canadian friend who saw
a mockingbird for the first time here in Texas!
