Hello,
I´m a brazilian journalist and I work for a Brazilian Pet Magazine called
"Cães & Cia", which means "Dogs and other animals".
I´m writing an article about some birds and one of them is the Eclectus.
Could you please help me answering these questions?
For how long have you been breeding Eclectus?
---> Which is the subspecie more commonly bred in the USA? Why?
(I found out that there´s only 1 specie and 10 subspecies)
1) Eclectus are used as well as pet birds (tamed finger birds) and
cage birds? The 10 subspecies are easily socialized to be pet birds?
Traditionally they are used as pet or cage birds? Please tell me examples
of how tamed they could be (such as they get into your shoulder all day,
loves biting carefully your ears, something like that..). How popular are
Eclectus in USA? As much as Amazons?
2) Besides all the subspecies, are there mutations already fixed in
captivity? In other words, are there mutations usually done with Eclectus?
If there are, how many mutations can we find?
3) Is the hobby of fixing mutations something popular in the U.S?
Eclectus´ breeders are involved with mutations such as ringnecks´ breeders?
4) What´s the main difference of Eclectus specifically talking about
their behaviour? What makes this genus different than the others concerning
their behaviour?
(The answer for that question could be: It is the most ... or it is the
less..., something like that for them to be different. The reason is for us
to show to our readers that birds are really different concerning
behaviour. So, someone that loves excited birds that are full time playing
and making such a noise knows which one is best to buy and in the other
hand, someone that wants to have a quiet bird also knows which one is best
for him. You can compare with Conures, Ring Necks, African Grey, Lovebirds,
Amazon Parrots, and so on, these popular birds)
5) Now, talking generally, what´s the great attraction of the family?
(why should someone buy a Eclectus and not a cockatiel, for example?)
6) How can the Eclectus be socialized? All subspecies need to be
handfed? Do you handfeed them from day one? When do you stop the
handfeeding?
7) Do they learn how to speak or just scream or whistle? They can
learn to speak as well as african greys? Do they scream as much as Conures?
Have you ever heard one Eclectus talking? Please give examples of words
that you have already heard them saying.
8) Are they playfull birds? Do they play inside their cages? Do you keep
them with toys?
9) For how much do you sell them?
Thanks for the attention. I gently ask if you can answer as soon as
possible as I have very little time to have all my article done. ;o)))
Best regards,
Rachel Fujita
